If you are considering investing in an electric bike for your daily commute, this could be the ideal opportunity: the subsidy covers 50% of the purchase price, including VAT, up to a limit of €750.
What is the Environmental Fund?
The Environmental Fund is an entity under Portugal’s Ministry of Environment that supports the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable mobility. In 2026, the Green Mobility – Passengers programme has a total budget of €10 million allocated to various zero-emission vehicles. For electric bicycles, category T4 has €1.5 million available, corresponding to 2,000 incentives.
If you are looking for an alternative to the car for daily commuting, urban travel, or weekend rides, an urban electric bike can be a more economical, practical, and sustainable solution.
How Does the Electric Bike Subsidy Work in 2026?
The subsidy applies to the purchase of new electric bikes designed for urban or city use. Bicycles intended for sports activities, such as mountain bikes, are excluded.
In summary, these are the main conditions of the incentive:
- Subsidy covering 50% of the bike purchase price, including VAT, up to a maximum of €750;
- Applicable to new electric bikes intended for urban use;
- You may apply even if you have not yet purchased the electric bike;
- There are 2,000 incentives available under category T4 – electric bicycles;
- Invoices dated after 1 January 2025 are eligible.
Therefore, if you are planning to buy an electric bike, it is important to prepare your application and confirm the eligible models before the available incentives are exhausted.
